Language and System of writing The system of writing that the ancient Egyptians used is called Hieroglyphics coming from the two Greek words hieros meaning holy and glyphe meaning writing. Hieroglyphics are a series of pictures drawn from one side of the page to the other. Hieroglyphics can be read and written from left to right or right to left depending upon which way the human and animal characters are facing. If the characters face the left then you read from the left to the right. Each hieroglyph represents a single sound, but as the Egyptians wrote sentences and words they took advantage of the vowels so they are still trying to figure them out today. Commedia dellarte Essay Commedia dellarte is a truly popular form of theatre of the people, by the people, for the people. Discuss this statement with specific examples of Commedia dellarte scenarios, stock characters, performance features and circumstances. Commedia dellarte is definitely an artform centred on people and their world. Although its origins are hazy due to the illiteracy of its first performers and audience, it is believed to have stemmed from the carnivals in Italy during the sixteenth century. Here it rose from the people from folk theatre, which used masks and music, and from the charlatans using pretence as a means of earning money. The scenarios involved in Commedia arose from the thematic concerns the form had. It was mainly concerned with examining the human condition via satire. Therfore, the canovaccios were filled with driving themes such as food, drink, sex, love, money and vengence. The artists created the scenarios to fit into the peoples living conditions as a safety valve. The costumes varied from loose to tight fitting garments and contrasted with the color of the characters mask. Their costumes would often reflect the characters social status, emotional state and motives. Commedia actors would train only to perform one character, and usually from an early age. The actors would often be from father to son, a parent teaching their child of only his character, and the child would train to be the same character as his father. The performances were mostly improvised and comedy-based. Influenced by the audience, some characters, would always attempt to make the audience laugh, not overly dissimilar to clowns. Other characters would bring comedy to the performance simply in their seriousness, in such a contrast to the clown characters; the serious characters would make the audience laugh through their motives, whilst clown characters would make the audience laugh through their misfortune. These clown characters included lazzi, who had no other purpose than comic relief. The lazzi’s movements were extremely exaggerated and often had a catchphrase; some troops used over one hundred lazzi’s over the course of their work. There were many different types of lazzi including acrobatic, violent, language, food, prop, sex, class rebellion, stage, stupidity, life, transformation, trickery and plot development. Stock characters were well-developed, easily recognisable characters; they were present in almost every Commedia performance and remained the same consistently from troupe to troupe. The stock characters were masked, and had extravagant costumes reflecting the character. Zanni were the servants in Commedia, serving the masters who were stock characters, they also served mostly as comic relief and the audience would laugh and their misfortunes. The zanni were treated poorly by their masters, providing the audience with someone to feel sorry for, but still laugh at, and perhaps if the actor was good, the audience would feel guilty for laughing. However, there was a lot of information on the things that are named after Juarez, like schools, airports, and streets. That is interesting but what I really wanted to find was his real history. Most of what I found said something like this. Benito Jurez was a Zapotec Indian who served two terms, 1861-1863 and 1867-1872, as President of Mexico. Jurez is often regarded as Mexico's greatest and most beloved leader. He is the first and only Native American to serve as President of Mexico. After finding so little information on most of the English based sites I had to go and do my research somewhere else. I went to Mexican based websites in an effort to find a lot more on Benito Juarez and his history. Benito Pablo Jurez Garcia was born in the village of San Pablo Guelatao, Oaxaca, on March 21, 1808. His parents were peasants who died before his fourth birthday. He worked in the corn fields and as a shepherd until the age of 12. Like many other Native indigenous this was the only source of income that they had. Until this day, the native tribes on Mexico only focus on the creation of crops to be able to survive. This is one of the reasons of why the Mexican government has had such big problems with the indigenous of Mexico. They feel that instead of working on their own fields, they should donate the land to a larger company and then worked for them. The debt problem of commodity-exporting LDCs is rooted in the low level of domestic resource mobilization, low rates of return on investment, the vulnerability to external shocks and slow export growth. For debt sustainability to be achieved, the rate of growth of exports must be greater than the rate of interest on outstanding debt. Although high levels of debt can depress economic growth in low-income countries, external debt slows growth only after its face value reaches a threshold level estimated to be about 50 percent of GDP. A major challenge LDCs face is ensuring that a reasonable resource level is allocated for debt servicing to avoid the risk of default and to maintain conducive relations for debt relief negotiations with its debtors Governments must make efforts to stabilize commodity prices, perk up their levels of domestic resource mobilization, increase rates of return on investments and raise export growth, and finally protect themselves from external shocks. Debt reform not only includes maintaining a manageable level of debt but also decreasing corruption incidence in LDCs, allocating a reasonable resource level for debt servicing to avoid the risk of default, without sacrificing than they can afford to invest in basic health care or education.
